Comprehensive Behavior Evaluation

Our 90-minute behavior evaluation session tackles issues like barking, biting, jumping up, and leash reactivity. This thorough consultation includes an in-person meeting with you and your dog, discussing your dog’s behavior history and training goals. After the session, you’ll receive a custom training and management plan tailored to your dog’s needs, including any recommended training packages.

In some cases, a veterinary visit may be recommended. We prioritize safety and health, so if we notice signs that suggest medical involvement, we may suggest a checkup with your vet or a veterinary behaviorist to ensure that your dog’s behavior training can proceed safely and effectively.

Foundation Behaviors

Foundation behaviors are essential, basic skills that form the building blocks of effective dog training. These behaviors help dogs respond calmly to commands, focus on their handler, and manage challenging situations. Mastering foundation behaviors promotes confidence, safety, and better communication between dog and owner.

Muzzle Training

Muzzle training helps your dog feel comfortable wearing a muzzle when needed. We introduce it slowly with rewards, so your dog sees it as a positive thing. This can make vet visits, grooming, and other situations less stressful for you and your dog.

Hand Target

Hand targeting teaches your dog to touch your hand with their nose on command. It’s a great way to get your dog’s attention and guide them where you want them to go. It’s easy to learn and very useful for keeping your dog focused.

Emergency U-turn

The emergency U-turn helps you quickly turn your dog around if there’s something ahead you want to avoid. This command keeps you both safe and lets you handle unexpected situations calmly. It’s especially helpful if your dog reacts strongly to other dogs or distractions.

Engage/Disengage

Engage/disengage training teaches your dog to notice things calmly without overreacting. We reward them for looking at something and then looking back at you. It’s great for helping your dog stay calm around things that usually make them excited or nervous.

Leave It

“Leave it” is a command that tells your dog to ignore something you don’t want them to touch or pick up. It’s helpful for avoiding food on the ground or other distractions. This skill helps your dog learn self-control and makes outings safer and more enjoyable.

These foundational behaviors empower both you and your dog, setting the stage for better focus, safety, and cooperation in various situations.

How Bad Behavior Develops

Bad behavior in dogs often stems from unmet needs, lack of training, or unclear boundaries. When a dog lacks physical exercise, mental stimulation, or consistent guidance, they may turn to behaviors like chewing, barking, or lunging to release pent-up energy. Some behaviors are a dog’s way of trying to communicate frustration, anxiety, or boredom.

Without early training, these tendencies can quickly become habits. Behavioral training helps fill these gaps, teaching dogs healthy ways to express themselves and giving owners the tools to respond effectively.
